This proposal's take on the competition theme is to relook at small objects from the everyday and to see how by undergoing some formal transformations, they can begin to attain different identities. If form follows function, and their forms get manipulated, how do their functions follow suit? Measuring just 2x1x0.5m, the ubiquitous roadside barrier was chosen as a 'material for the pavilion due to its robustness as an outdoor element, its plasticity with a geometry that arises strictly to serve its specific function. Rather than repeating it longitudinally where it is more used to be strung, multiplying it both vertically and horizontally to form a wall attains a sculptural dimension that turned its functional indentations ornate, though not entirely so. Nooks and crevices between the stacking allow for natural ventilation while vertically aligned eyelets allow vertical columns to string them together for stability. Having a thickened wall at one barrier thick (2m) naturally keeps out rain, while at the same time, alludes to its position as an outdoor bastion near Fort Canning Though visually heavy, embedding a light fixture within the hollow barrier wall creates a soft glow from within.

Utilizing materials that are able to be rented ensures continuity of usage after the festival is over and the Pavilion is dismantled. Box truss systems and scaffoldings are selected as structures for the pavilion for this reason. The road barriers. similarly, will leave after the festival. to join construction sites all over the island.
